15k: Seller Sumbission: 1970 MG MGB GT-S Twin Cam

If you are anything like me, you've drooled over many of the recent Reader Ride features and wondered how you could get something like that in your garage.  Today is your lucky day, because the GT-S twin cam powered MGB GT is looking for a new home.  Find this 1970 MG MGB GT-S Twin Cam offered for $15,000 in Monterey, CA via craigslist.  Seller submission from KC.

In case you missed this car when it was a reader ride feature, let's do a quick recap.   Incredible attention to detail, twin cam Toyota power, perfect ride height setup on coilovers and multi-link rear, nice interior, clean as a whistle inside-and-out, this car is filled with little incredible details.  The asking price is a mere $15k, which in my calculation is a far cry less than what it cost to build something similar from scratch. 

The engine bay looks clean enough to eat from, but don't you dare get anywhere near this thing with a Carl's Jr. Thickburger (notice they had to change the name from Six Dollar Burger because it costs more than $6 now..) or some nasty skank like Paris Hilton; admittedly, the burger is probably cleaner.  The engine is a Toyota 4AG-E 16 valve 1.6 with large port head on a 20 valve block, Weisco pistons, Crower H-beam rods, forged crank, big cams, big valves, and its breathing thru Dellorto 40s with an HKS variable induction manifold and stand alone controller.  Spark is controlled from a crank fire ignition with Megajolt controller and all of that glorious thunder is mated to a Toyota T50 5-speed manual transmission.  

What sets this car apart from the run-of-the-mill engined swapped car is the attention to detail.  It is fitted with early door handles, and fender vents have a nice twin-cam script. The dash is a custom painted job and looks nothing like the factory dash that would have had padding to meet safety standards of the day.  The little details like taking the time to cut down the seats so that the seat backs look right for an early car and the twin stopwatches sitting next to the passenger look perfect for a vintage TSD event.

Purists might not agree with me, but at $15k this car is a steal compared to the scores of other classics available at this price point and the smile per mile factor on this one should be incredible.  Got your own car to sell? Send it in; the worst we can say is yes.  tips@dailyturismo.com

  2. Certainly nicer than my B, but I far prefer the rotary heart in mine to the pistons in this one. I love everything else, though. Adapting the Toyota rear end is a cool way to gain an LSD and ditch the leaf springs.

  3. What a great way to build one of these that's trackable and reliable with a low budget. I'd love to add this to my garage but have to build a simple ls1t56 fdrx7 first. I'm sure the next owner of this will be happy and smiling for years.
