10k: Family Hauler: 1972 Datsun 510 Wagon

The phrase "nicest Datsun 510 Wagon you will find for sale in Canada" gets tossed around on the internet about like a bad cliche.   I can't tell you how many times I've heard that title attached to some undeserving rusty wreck, but today, it might just be true.  Find this 1972 Datsun 510 Wagon offered for $12,800 CAD ($11,666 USD) via Kijiji.

The Datsun 510 (known as the Bluebird outside the US & Canada) was a small sedan from Japanese parent company Nissan available as a 2-door, 4-door, and wagon.  This particular example is riding on a nice looking set of minilite style wheels and the paint looks shiny.

Under the hood is a 1.8 liter single-overhead-cam inline-4 good for 105 horsepower.  It isn't the sexiest engine to ever leave a factory, but it'll make decent power and get the job done.

  1. Oh oh, there go my heart strings.... My second car was a 510 wagon, which did long and honourable duty as my autocross support vehicle (back when flat towing race cars was common). Great cars, but oh so rust prone. Mine was resurrected twice from the tin worm, until the day that the steering box simply ripped off the frame mounts.

Still, it probably is a good thing that Edmonton is at least 3400 km away from me. If it was local, who knows...

    1. That's where the light switch would be normally, probably so he can find it in the dark. ;)

  3. Ejector seat ("you're joking")? Kill switch either for the visually challenged or syndactyl?
