Reader Ride: Tom's Classic Volvos

Time for another edition of Daily Turismo's Reader Ride, its better than a back massage from Edward Scissorshands and, similarly, it's free!  This time from from Tom M. who sent us several photos of his sweet collection of Volvos and a BMW.  The 1800 is his classic, the Volvo 544 is his barn find and it looks like the M-Coupe is a daily driver.  Lucky dog!!

Anyway, enough of this editorial nonsense --in Tom's own words:

The 1800E is my fifth 1800 since '77, and the '64 544 is my second one. This 1800 had 64k miles on it when I got it in '91 and turned 99k recently.

I have had to do a lot to it and now it burns oil on acceleration when it gets hot...rats, more work. The yellow is Porsche pale yellow as opposed to the Volvo #100 baby poop yellow which hardly is yellow.

I have had the 544 for 3 years now and was a stored "barn find" in Michigan after being purchased from California so I didn't do much but all fluids, tune up and rebuilt the carbs. I have not washed it yet but plan on polishing the dull away and redo the floor mats and make it super clean and polished. It is a blast as a DD and is all original from top to bottom.

At some point the 1800E has to go away as I am not using it. The Z3Mcoupe in the backround is much more fun to drive, but has nowhere near the looks. Oh, the family car is a V50 and the kid car a 122!!

Looks like a nice set of options for the daily commute!

  1. Nice cars, I used to own an 1800E many years ago. It was a nice car for an afternoon drive, but it had terminal rust issues and I sold it to my mechanic for spare change.

  2. Very, very cool collection you have there. 544, 122, 1800... That's about 1/2 of my "when I make my first million dollars" (hah) classic Volvogarage. Next half would be a 142, 242 and 780.

Is your 122 a wagon? If so, I demand pictures! haha.

    Thanks for sharing.
