10k: Hatchling: 1979 TVR Taimar

In 1972 TVR introduced their M-series platform (1600M, 2000M, 2500M, 3000M and Taimar), a body-on-frame replacement for the aging Vixen/Tuscan sports cars.  TVR kept the same glass-reinforced-plastic (GRP) construction on a steel backbone of the previous cars as well as much of the same parts (like windshield, roof, doors) and was mostly redesigned for style and crash standards.  Find this 1979 TVR Taimar offered for $12,999 in Central Point, OR via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck and Oldsmobuick.

The Taimar was a hatchback version of the 3000M that added usability and storage space to the small and noisy TVR.  The Taimar was ostensibly named after the designer's friend's girlfriend (Tayma) and just under 300 were built between 1976 and 1979.  Power came from the same 3.0 liter Ford Essex V6 from the 3000M and was rated at 138 horsepower and 174 ft-lbs of torque.  Performance at 0 to 60mph in 7.7 seconds is slower than the average family sedan today, but back in 1979 it wasn't bad at all.
