3k: Interweb Spider: 1974 Fiat 124 Sport Spider

The collective car hunting power of the readers of Daily Turismo never ceases to amaze-- especially given a quick off-the-cuff challenge like "find a good Spider."  There was an extremely clean Triumph TR6 that Kaibeezy found, a rare 3000GT drop top from FTB, some nice 80s Italian ladies from AbnMike, but nothing beats the price/value ratio of the Fiat Spider suggested by commenter Gianni.  Find this 1974 Fiat 124 Sport Spider offered for $2,850 near Seattle, WA via craigslist.

The later rubber trash-truck bumper Spiders are dime-a-dozen, but try finding a chrome bumper version (even if it is a '74 with the little bumplet fangs) for less than $5k that isn't a pile of rust.  Not only does the seller of this one say it has no rust, but the paint is 10 years old (no recent quicky spray) and looks great.  All for less than $3k?  What's the catch?  Well...she doesn't exactly run right now, could be something simple as rebuilding the carbs, rebuilding the engine, or swapping in a blown LS3 V8.

What a beauty.  If it really is rust free and just needs the tank drained and carb de-gunked...this could be extremely well purchased at this price.  See a better spider?

    Yeah, this could be the find of the week/month if it really is rust free. Mechanical bits are easy compared to rust.

    1. Yes - the original photos hurt my eyes, so I did a quick brightness/contrast correction, plus some digital sharpness. There is just zero range in the area around the hood/grill so I failed in my ultimate goal of coaxing the front end details out of the jpgs...someday I will create a photo sharing site that allows nothing but rull res raw images and become good friends with both people who upload photos to the site.... and craigslist will still be littered with circa 1997 Samsung flip phone images.
      Agree'd on the value of this one.

  2. I had a friend check it out and appears to hold true on the rust free statements. So I grabbed it. Next, address the fuel issues and a few other issues that came up when checking it out.

    3. Well Vince, I didn't reply because the story was less than great. I picked up the car after a friend checked it out...ran very rough but was on 10yr gas and sort of stopped. The body was great...which really motivated me. Well I am located on the East Coast and the car was on the West so I had a Fiat specialist give it a thorough check. Not good and as I could not do any work...the bill to get her whole again was too high for me to commission the work at the shop and my plan of spending some time in the Seattle area working did not transpire so I am putting her up for sale.
