5k: Elemental Fun: 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S Convertible

The A60 generation Celica (1982-1985) was the final rear-wheel-drive version of Toyota's legendary pony car competitor.  Toyota never built a factory ragtop version of the A60, but a number bound for the US market were modified by California based American Specialty Cars (ASC) to provide open air fun.  Find this 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S Convertible offered here on craigslist for $5,500 in Yuma, AZ.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Mid Week Match-Up: Find A Party Car

It is the Wednesday, so that means it's time for another edition of Daily Turismo's weekly game of oil pan drip bingo also known as Mid Week Match-Up! Today is New Years Eve and what we need is the perfect vehicle for a party.  Find a vehicle that works for getting to/from the party as well as being a party.   How about a Cadillac Edorado shooting brake?

10k: Luxury Liner: 1995 Lexus LS400

DT Editor Vince -- This next tip comes to us from Andy L who included a complete story, here it is:  I put about 200K on a 95 LS400, so I would like to offer you my anecdotal take on this particular example.  Lexus sedans are not everyone's cup of tea.  They are heavier than a whale, always a tick behind the competition in acceleration and handling, thirsty for gas and often thought of as a retiree's car.  Their unremarkable styling seems to mimic Benzes of the same era and won't be turning any heads.  One could argue, however, that early models just might be the best kept secret in luxury bargains.  Find this 1995 Lexus LS400 1-owner example here on eBay offered for $8,675 buy-it-now with 2 days to go, located in Pompano Beach, FL.

5k: Oddity: 1987 Volvo 780 Bertone Coupe

This next feature comes courtesy of a tip from Andy L who writes:   I like it, even though it reminds me of a 2-door Chevy Celebrity and a Maserati Bi-turbo.  Driving up a hill.  It probably performs about as well too!!  Find this 1987 Volvo 780 Bertone Coupe offered here on eBay for $7,500 buy-it-now with a few hours to go, located in Long Island City, NY.

5k: Heavy Fuel: 1985 Ford Bronco 6.9 Diesel Power

The third generation Ford Bronco dates from the time when the Bronco was a plus sized SUV (only the first generation '66-'77 were compact) that used the F-series truck chassis and competed with Chevy's Blazer and Chrysler's Dodge Ramcharger.  Oddly enough all three of these dinosaurs are now extict, only to be found as fossils in desert communities...but that shouldn't stop you from considering one if you need a giant 4X4.  Find this  1985 Ford Bronco with 6.9 Ford Diesel Power offered here on craigslist for $6,500 in Yucca, AZ.  Tip from FuelTruck.

5k: Winters Beatings: 1991 Volvo 740 GLE 16-Valve Wagon

Folks outside a few select locations don't have the luxury of driving a vintage convertible 12 months out of the year and sometimes even people who live near a tropical beach have to drive 42 miles in bumper-to-bumper traffic.  What this means is that the normal requirement for fun driving gets thrown out the window, and now you simply need a car that runs and fits as much crap on the inside while being as economical as possible.  What about this 4-cylinder powered, slushbox equipped wagon for less than three large?  Find this 1991 Volvo 740 GLE Wagon offered here on craigslist for $2,500 in Scripps Ranch, CA.

10k: Seller Submission: 1998 BMW M3 Sedan E36

The E36 generation BMW M3 continues to be a great buy for the enthusiast on a budget.  Buy-in prices for these cars are downright cheap and, regrettably, the cars are getting scrapped as the sweet inline-6 engines find their way into other vehicles.  This might cause the cream to float to the attention in the next few years.  Maintenance can be expensive, but they are surprisingly rugged and will cost a fraction of what you'd spend on the slower E30 M3 or E28 M5.  Find this 1998 BMW M3 5-speed sedan E36 offered for $11,000 here on bimmerforums classifiedsSeller submission from Danny.

5k: Sunbimmer: 1967 Sunbeam Alpine Project with BMW M3 Power

I knew this would happen soon.  The E36 prices have gotten so low they are now being scrapped for their sweet inline-6 was only a matter of time.  E36 M3s have been donating their engines to other BMW product for years (that is fairly common) but now they are starting to pop up in all kinds of Datsuns and now...for the first a Sunbeam.  Find this 1967 Sunbeam Alpine project with BMW M3 power offered here on craigslist for $7,300 in Rancho Cordova, CA.  Tip from an anonymous commenter.

5k: Depreciation Special: 1993 Mercedes-Benz 600SEC

In 1992 Mercedes-Benz shoved a 6 liter V12 into the front of the W140 chassis 2-door luxury coupe that tipped the scales at almost 5000 lbs (or 500 lbs MORE than the sedan version).  It was a fast and strange vehicle that cost $150,000 in 1993 dollars, which adjusted for inflation would be $245,000 today.  Unlike a $150k investment bond, Oklahoma ranch house, or Faberge egg collection, the Mercedes is now worth a fraction of its original investment.  Find this 1993 Mercedes-Benz 600SEC currently bidding here on eBay for $3,333 with 2 days to go located in Anaheim, CA.

What Am I? Open The Door

Welcome to another edition of DT's cure for the Monday morning blues -- What Am I?  In this better than spending New Years in a Gulag game we find a random picture of a car and you get to guess what it is.  Last week's puzzle was a picture of the inside of a rusted out Firebird Formula -- it was solved by sharp eye'd regular Andrew Liss.  This next feature might be your lucky one.  Just what am I anyway? Update with answer below.

10k: Drink Your Vee Eight: 1998 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG W202

If the BMW M3/M5 market tells us anything, it is that fast, limited edition, German sedans will be worth something in the future.  Mercedes starting badging their US bound cars with the AMG logo in 1995 with the big inline-6 powered C36 AMG, but in 1998 they released the V8 powered version called the C43 AMG.  Today's feature is a medium mile example offered for a medium price.  Find this 1998 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG W202 offered for $11,900 in Ft Myers, CO here on craigslist.

15k: Under Wraps: 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T 440

In 1965 the Coronet name (retired from the full sized platform in 1959) was revived for the mid-sized B-body platform (shared with Plymouth Belvedere, Savoy, GTX, Road Runner and Dodge Charger). The Coronet R/T was the model to get in 1967 as it was powered by a tweaked version of the 440 cubic inch Magnum V8.  Find this 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 currently bidding for $12,700 here on eBay with one day to go, located in Cleveland, TN.

5k: Front Wheel Peeler: 1998 Buick Riviera

The Buick Riviera was born in 1963 as a handsome and successful pillarless hardtop coupe from GM.  The old gal soldiered on for years and eventually made the switch from rear to front wheel drive early for a full sized coupe and lasted until its 8th generation (1999) before being sent to the glue factory for good.  But, the last generation Riviera offers a strangely appealing package for a very basic price.  Find this 1998 Buick Riviera currently bidding for $6,500 with 1 day to go, here on eBay, located in Orange, CA.

15k: Un-Pimp My Ride: 1978 Datsun 280Z LSX Powered

Commenter RyanM hit the nail on the head when he commented about the M3 powered 240Z from earlier this week:  In a world where the answer to the engine-swap question always seems to be "LSx", this is a refreshing change. It certainly was a refreshing change to see something like that, but as they say on the TV: we now return to our regular programming.  Find this 1978 Datsun 280Z with Chevy LSX power here on eBay currently bidding for $15,000 reserve-not-met with less than one day to go.

10k: Magic: 1986 Citroen CX Presitge

Every great automobile legacy consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The automaker shows you something ordinary: a sedan, a coupe or a fastback. He shows you a Citroen (Citroën!) Traction Avant 15 CV. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second part is called "The Turn". The OEM takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for a Citroën DS, a hydropneumatic suspended piece of art. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something bizarre isn't enough; you have to do it again. That's why every auto legacy has a third act, the hardest part, the part Citroën calls "the CX Prestige".  Find this 1986 Citroën CX Presitge currently bidding here on eBay for $11,000 with 1 day to go. (Update, the seller has removed this listing, probably because it was not going to meet some hidden reserve or it was sold via a cash offer outside of the bidding process).
