1k: Hide In Bush Country: 1973 Pontiac Catalina 400ci V8

Joker here again, another thing this web site needs is a good injection of animal skin decorated cars.  There aren't nearly enough okapi camouflaged Oldsmobiles or puma spotted Prii - but that is going to change with a few quick hacks on the Joker's keyboard.  This feature is the perfect car for a woodland heist, African safari or blending into the crowd at a KISS concert..  Find this 1973 Pontiac Catalina with zebra stripes for sale in Battle Ground, WA for $1,000 via craigslist.

5k: Joker Approved: 1929 Gazelle Mercedes SSK Kit Car

Joker here, my next order of business is to add a touch of class on this site and stop posting all those crappy BMWs, douchey Alfas, miserably slow Volvos and prick-filled Porsches.  With that out of the way, I'm still a fan of nice looking classic cars, but prefer cheaper versions.  Furthermore, on a meager assistant evil-doer salary you aren't going to be able to afford a real pre-war Mercedes, so why not pick up the next best thing: a Gazelle kit car- nobody but a real stick-in-the-mud car aficionado is going to know this is a kit car and if you work for the Joker, I'll give free reign to run any one of those people over.  Anyway, find this 1929 Gazelle Mercedes SSK Kit Car for sale in Orange, CA for $4,000 via craigslist.

1k: Henchmen Ride: 1966 Dodge Coronet 318 Sedan

Loyal henchmen willing to die in a gun fight with the police or at the treacherous hands of the bat-freak are difficult to find.  First, you've got to find some poor sap who is willing  to be loyal beyond a shadow of a doubt, follow your commands to the letter with no questions and step in front of bullets, knives or batarangs thrown in your general direction. Some of these poor idiots have families and per Evildoer guild regulation 2.1.1 you've got to have an orphan/widow slush fund setup for when these poor suckers get whacked.  For this reason I try to get my henchmen into a cheap vehicle that gives them the best chance of surviving a few crashes/gun fights but slow enough to not have them catch up with the Batmobile and get aced.  A classic Dodge Coronet fits the bill perfectly!  Find this 1966 Dodge Coronet 318 V8 sedan for sale in Escondido, CA for $1,500 via craigslist.

Welcome To The Joker's New And Improved Daily Turismo: 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van

Joker here...listen up internet world, I've hacked DT...but not in the traditional computer programming sense of the word, no I hacked them up with a rusty hatchet and used the computers they leave unlocked and logged in and to take over these pages. I'm kicking off this little party with a feature of my T2 "Bay Window" Westy. Honestly I'd love to keep it, but I need the cash to buy some nitroglycerin to pack into a school bus filled with nuns as a trap for the Batman.  Actually, they aren't nuns, they are my loyal-to-death henchmen dressed as nuns and they will jump out of the bus with tommy guns to fill that black masked bandit full of lead, but I may just blow them up for fun if the Batman is within blast range.  Find my 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van for sale in La Mesa, CA for $6,200 via craigslist.

10k: You'll Never Go Stag Again: 1972 Triumph Stag

The Triumph Stag was a classy 2-seat semi-hardtop convertible designed by Giovanni Michelotti (designer of the BMW 2002 among other cars).  The T-top b-pillar roll hoop ruined an otherwise stunning design and Triumph's inability to produce a reliable new vehicle put the final nail in the Stag's coffin.  The issues reported early on are not a problem you have to worry about in a 40 year old classic, as all the initial quality defects have long been ironed out in a car that has survived to today, but it still ruined the Stag's reputation for years to come.  Find this 1972 Triumph Stag for sale in San Rafael, CA for $12,000 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

10k: Pistachazon: 1966 Volvo Amazon (122S); Minty Clean

From Oct. 24, 2013: The Volvo Amazon (called the 120 series outside of Sweden) was the more practical, more upright but still sexy older sibling of the P1800 sporty car, to which it donated its engine, transmission, and suspension options. Today the values of the 1800 series coupes and 1800ES shooting brakes have started to tick up, leaving the Amazon behind slightly. But now we're starting to see some action on the nicely preserved examples of the pre-brick Volvo sedans & wagons, for good reason - they are solidly built, fun to drive, look great and should live forever. I can't remember seeing an Amazon as nice as the one below for sale recently, so it should be worth a closer look. Find this 1966 Volvo 122S / Amazon 2-door in Portland, Oregon bidding on ebay near $8,000 with no reserve. (Auction ended with winning bid of, gasp, $36,100...but the buyer backed out)

Update, Oct. 30, 2013: The winning ebay bidder of the Ama-thon frenzy apparently backed out of the deal, and the seller has relisted this sweet little 2-door. Here's to hoping that prices stay a bit more realistic this time! Find the new auction here on ebay, ending on Nov. 4th. (Auction ended with winning bid of $18,100..still a lot of money for an Amazon).

5k: Error 404 Found: 1965 Peugeot 404 Sedan

The standard web server response to a user selecting a dead link is to generate a "404 not found" error message, but when you find a Peugeot 404, you've got to wonder if it was by error?  Its not that the 404 is a bad car, it's just that it is an odd car to find in the USA and general perceptions of the French equivalent of Sweden's 122/Amazon aren't particularly positive.  Find this 1965 Peugeot 404 sedan for sale in Reading, PA currently bidding for $5,656 via ebay with 4 days to go.  Tip from John G.

5k: Results May Vairy: 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Turbo 4-spd

New Haven, Connecticut is a classically old school American city.  It was founded in 1638 by Puritans, was birthplace of Eli Whitney's cotton gin, home of Ivy League school Yale University, birthplace of the Knights of Columbus, birthplace of the hamburger, steamboat, submarine, corkscrew, lollipop, frisbee...the list goes on. New Haven is also a diverse and affordable city with many neighborhoods in which to find a decent home at a good price. What better place to find a classically old school American coupe, also packed with history, technology and surprisingly affordable?  Find this 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Turbo 4spd for sale on New Haven, CT craigslist for $4,999.

5k: Mid Engine Pickup: 1980 Dodge D50 Pickup, 455ci Olds V8

Only a few more days before Halloween and you'll have to wait another year to send in your horrorod tips.  Except that we post horrible stuff all year around, so I guess you can finish installing that gas turbine into your Bentley before sending us the submission.  Take your time and please be safe.  Anyway, find this 1980 Dodge D50 Pickup with 455ci mid-mounted V8 for sale in Kansas City, KS for $5,500 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

20k: Vainity Vair & Hot Air: 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Turbo Convertible

While still scratching our heads over the admittedly great looking, but incredibly over-bid Volvo 122S we featured the other day (which closed yesterday at an amazing price of $36,100) we came across this beautifully restomodded 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Turbo Convertible for sale on Ebay offered for sale in Dallas Texas by Starwood Motors, for a market high price out of $22,888. Read on for more ranting about the market.

15k: 3 Paint Jobs And A Funeral: 1969 BMW 2002 Cobra, Repeat Offender

Cars get picked up by new owners, painted and re-sold all the time; some are professional middlemen, others are simply folks who enjoy the restoration, but get bored and move onto the next project when done.  As a result, we often see the same car again and these repeat offenders sometimes get a new paint job, but to see a single car with three different paint schemes within one calendar year...that is odd.  Find this 1969 BMW 2002 built on a tube frame chassis and Ford V8 powered, former Jalopnik NPOCP feature in blue, former DT feature in turd/olive and now covered in a classic BMW motorsports livery and bidding for $13,500 on ebay with 2 days to go in Lubbock, TX.  Tip from Scooter who says he saw it on germancarsforsaleblog.com

5k: Puttin On The Biarritz: 1979 Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz

In the opening scene of the 1995 Martin Scorsese film Casino, a peach suited (with pink shirt, pink tie) Ace Rothstein (played by Robert DeNiro) steps into a Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz and is instantly engulfed in the orange flames of a large car bomb.  The movie was based loosely on an actual true-to-life event of real mobster Frank Rosenthal who survives the explosion thanks in part to an extra thick piece of steel placed under the driver's seat, ostensibly to balance the car left/right weight distribution - but you don't find that out till the end of the movie.   I'm sorry if I've spoiled that for anyone, but we don't do spoiler alerts here at DT because we enjoy spoiling things - gotta a problem with that, get your own site. If you want to live your very own Ace Rothstein life of chips, chicks and coke, keep reading and start the right way by saving your cash for the other white stuff and pickup this cheap 1979 Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz currently bidding for $4,494 reserve-not-met in San Francisco, CA via ebay.

20k: Daily Bavarian: 1970 BMW E9 2800CS

The BMW E9 is a classically beautiful car and arguably one of the best-proportioned coupes built in the last 50 years. This model was a kind of update/extension of the previous 2000CS Neue Klasse coupe and evolved from an original Bertone design, but with an extended wheelbase and nose to fit inline 6-cylinder engines. The problem with the E9, at least in later 3.0CS guise is that prices are now far, far out of the DT range. So how about a reasonably priced alternative to the Übercoupe? The 2800CS was an earlier 2.8 liter version that shared the body and most mechanical bits but can be found for a fraction of the price today. It will give the owner the same striking lines to admire and a much happier bank account. Find this 1970 BMW E9 2800CS here for sale in Berkeley, CA for $19995 via craigslist.

5k: Fast Forward Drive: 1985 Honda CRX Si

Long before Honda released its CR-Z hybrid two-seater, there was a little Honda that could achieve 50mpg, scoot along quite nicely and turn when needed.  The original CRX achieved similar performance to the modern interpretation (CR-Z) not because of batteries, electronic gizmos & fancy wheels - but because it lacked these heavy and worthless additions.   Most CRXs have been lowered, pimped, rat-rodded and turned into Horrorods, so it is great to see one in original and stock condition.  Find this 1985 Honda CRX Si for sale in Traverse City, MI for $4,000 via craigslist.  Tip from Art C.

2k: Corollin: 1981 Toyota Corolla, Minty Clean, 7k Miles

The 4th generation E70 Toyota Corolla was the last RWD platform that extended across the entire Corolla lineup (the AE86 "Hachi-Roku" coupe remained RWD for the next generation, but within a few years everything was front-drive, understeering, no-fun, appliance-city).  The Corolla was a simple economy car with no particular designs on world domination, but it was cheap to buy, cheap on fuel, cheap to insure, but most importantly: it was reliable.  In the years since Toyota went from small manufacturer to the 2nd biggest vehicle builder in the world, most Corollas have racked up 200k plus miles, but today's feature is different.  Find this 1981 Toyota Corolla with 7k miles on the odometer for sale in Fremont, CA for $1,900 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

20k: Costco Sized: 6 Fiat X1/9s and 3 SAAB Sonetts

If you like shopping in bulk and buying a bunch of crap that is just going to rot in the garage you converted to a pantry...we've got a treat for you!  The general consensus on the $15k Bertone X/19 custom posted last week is that it costs about ten times as much as any X1/9 will ever be worth.  A good illustration of both the value of buying in bulk and the condition of the X1/9 market is today's feature from tipper Alex V who calls this the X1 9 times loser.  Find this pack of 6 Fiat X1/9s and 3 SAAB Sonetts offered for $19,999 in Pomona, CA via craigslist.

15k: The Futura Is Now: 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Sprint Convertible

The first generation Ford Falcon was the brainchild of future US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara and featured a small unit-construction body on top of basic suspension (coil front, leaf spring rear).  The Falcon was designed chiefly with cost in mind as it was marketed as a high volume compact family car and sold very well when new. Find this 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Sprint Convertible for sale in Gardendale, AL currently bidding for $14,000 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

1k: Cherry Pickle: 1970s Datsun F10 Body On 1940s Dodge Powerwagon Chassis With Snow Plow

The Datsun F10 is considered by self-appointed experts as the ugliest car from the 1970s - and while it is more forgettably ugly than obtrusively ugly - the idea of picking it as the body for your heavy duty snow-plow built on a Dodge Powerwagon chassis is questionable.  What isn't in question is the fact that is the very definition of a Horrorod.  Find this 1970s Datsun F10 Body On 1940s Dodge Powerwagon Chassis With Snow Plow for $1,100 via rufusranch.com in Brainerd, MN.  Tip from Geraldine S.

2k: Refined Redneck Cruiser: 1993 Ford Thundebird 5.0 HO Davey Allison Edition

The tenth generation Ford Thunderbird was the last of the original T-birds (the 2002-2005 retro styled reboot is better left forgotten) and shared many components with the Fox mustang, but featured an independent rear suspension and a few other tricks up its sleeve.  Today's feature is a rare "Davey Allison Edition" named after a famous and deceased NASCAR racer.  Find this 1993 Ford Thundebird 5.0 HO Davey Allison Edition for sale in Easley, SC for $2,000 via craigslist.   Tip from Art C.

5k: Cheap Track Rat: 1971 Fiat 850 Abarth 1300 Spider

The Fiat 850 Spider was a small 2-sear roadster with a body designed and built by Bertone and mechanical bits from the Fiat 850 sedan. The 850 is pretty slow, even by X1/9 standards, but today's feature has had an injection of scorpion venom.  Find this 1971 Fiat 850 Abarth 1300 Spider for sale in Clovis, CA currently bidding for $3,500 reserve-not-met with buy-it-now of $5,300 via ebay.

10k: Dude Nice CamEro: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Horrorod

Out of all the commonly misspelled words in print, the favorite among car listings has the be the ubiquitous Camero.  Do a nationwide search for Cameros on craigslist or ebay and find not just a few, but an entire city sized population of Cameros all over the USA.  Sure, phonetically the car's name sounds like "Cam-air-o" but its not like the car doesn't have multiple badges on it proudly spelling the name correctly.  The spelling mistake is so universal that you could probably make a pretty good business on the side selling "Camero" script badges on the internet or at  your local swap meet.  Anyway, enjoy the crazier side of the average Camero listing with this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Horrorod for sale in Fremont, CA for $9,900 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

5k: Henry Hill's Cruiser: 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

The 4th generation Cadillac Coupe DeVille was designed by GM's legendary designer of the '38 Caddy Sixty Special, C2 Corvette Stingray, and '55-'57 Chevy - Bill Mitchell.  When new the DeVille was a huge hit amongst rich old dudes, attention seekers and gangsters - even the young coke obsessed Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta) in Goodfellas drives this exact a similar but later car in a putrid shade of pumpkin.  Find this 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille for sale in Burbank Hills, CA for $7,700. Tip from Jack B.

2k: Luxury And Reliability: 1985 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas, Chevy V8

The Jaguar XJ series III was introduced in 1979 with a slight redesign from the previous generation penned by legendary design house Pininfarina.  The XJ was available with a big inline-6 or a huge V12, but many owners have wisely chosen to replace the cool but unreliable Jag engines with a domestic V8.  The Chevy 350 is more powerful than the V12, lighter than the I-6 and more fuel efficient than both.  Find this 1985 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas for sale in Mustang, OK currently bidding on ebay for $1,775 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

5k: Grey Matter: 1985 BMW 323i E30 Baur Targa

The BMW E30 323i was not exported to North America, so we yanks never got the L-jetronic fuel injected M20B23 inline-6.  After 25 years of age, foreign-market cars can be legally imported into the US and this one has reportedly been through the rigorous California BAR certification process and has been 50-state legal for the past 10 years.  Find this 1985 BMW 323i Baur Targa for sale in Allentown, PA for $6,250. Tip from David K.
