15k: V8 Streamliner: 2006 Mercedes-Benz R500 4Matic

In 2006 the juggernaut from Stuttgart invaded yet another market segment with an innovative automobile, this time a luxury minivan.  Pundits said it was a mistake and no one would buy one...and they were right.  Mercedes ended production in 2011 after a total of 50,000 were sold in the US market, about one-fifth of internal Benz projections.  There was even a sweet 502 horsepower R63 AMG version available in 2007 that was discontinued before the end of the year, but they only sold 84 in the USA and still sell for around $40k (or so we assume from the only two we could find nationwide anywhere here and here via autotrader.)  Sticking with our theme of cheap-speed, we think the R500 is a better deal today as it only gives up 200 horsepower and is about 1/3 the price.  Find this 2006 Mercedes-Benz R500 4Matic for sale in Staten Island, NY currently bidding for $11,600 reserve-not-met or buy-it-now $16,900 via ebay.

10k: Repeat Offender: 1987 Porsche 911 LS1 Swap

We featured another 911-V8 from this seller back in February of this year, a 1978 SC Coupe.  Oddly enough, the seller also equipped that one with a huge and hideous unpainted fiberglass whale-tail.  Find this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera with Chevy LS1 V8 swap for sale in Texas City, TX currently bidding on ebay for $10,600 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

1996 Vintage Oscar Mayer Weinermobile Pedal Car

We've found the perfect vehicle for attending the next Anthony Wiener New York mayoral campaign event.  This 1996 vintage Oscar Mayer Weinermobile pedal car is for sale in Colton, CA for $150 via craigslist.  Three quarters of a horsepower is all the best athlete will ever be able to produce for very short bursts, and able to sustain about one third.  No need to worry about 0-60mph stats as it will barely exceed 10mph with Lance Armstrong hooked up to an IV of HGH, codine and scotch.

10k: Green Machine: 1977 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham

Carter was President.  Speed limits were down. The only way that you could feel like your car was haulin' ass was to change the scale on your speedo.  Furthermore the under-damped and under-sprung suspension made the cars float at 55mph like you were doing 110mph, but this is what was available in mainstream American dealer lots and people bought em.  Most have been crushed into cubes, shipped to China and returned covered in lead paint for children to play with, but a few clean ones survived the Cash4Clunkers debacle.  Find this 1977 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham with only 33k miles on the odo for $10,000 located in Sacramento, CA via craigslist.  Tip from...the Curator of Classics on Craigslist...Kaibeezy!

2k: Too Good To Be True? 1982 Porsche 911SC Targa Project

There is an old saying that if something is too good to be true...it probably isn't.  We sure hope this isn't the case for the $2,500 1982 Porsche 911SC Targa project found on the SF Bay Area craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

10k: Mach Some Lemonade: 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

They say when life gives you lemons you should make lemonade.  What if life gives you a rusty Mustang Mach 1 for a nice price?  What then? Here is your chance to find out what you are made of.  Buy this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 currently bidding on ebay for $6,250 with 3 days to go, located in Gambrills, MD.

10k: Bathtub Straight-8: 1950 Packard Eight 2-Door

In 1949 the Packard Motorcar Company celebrated its 50th year of building sleek cars, but by 1957 the Packard name was gone for good.  In 1950 Packard entered 7 models in the 1st Carrera Panamericana road race held in Mexico from 1950-1954.  In the same year this 1950 Packard Eight 2-Door "Bathtub" left the assembly line and began its long journey to where it sits today.  Find it here for sale in California's garlic capital, Gilroy, CA for $10,000 via craigslist.  Tip from KBZ

10k: Sunny Side Up: 2004 Porsche Boxster S

The first generation Porsche Boxster was internally designated the 986 and sold from 1997-2004.  It introduced Porsche's first watercooled flat-6 to a skeptical public, and many proceeded to blow up in/out of warranty.  It was also Porsche's first road-going mid engine car since the 914 and as such was bestowed with fantastic handling, grip, steering, controls; truly a sublime car to drive with gusto, particularly in the faster "S" trim.  Ten years does a lot to the resale value of a luxury sports car and today nice Boxster S examples can be found for around $15k, or $35k off MSRP.  Not a bad discount.  Find this 2004 Porsche Boxster S for sale in Fort Lauderdale, FL currently bidding on ebay for $11,000 with less than 1 day to go.  Update 6/28, it looks like the seller pulled the auction, likely because it was no reserve and someone was going to get a great deal...so...here is a 2001 Boxster S with 62k miles for $15k and another 2001 with 57k for $16k.

10k: C4+3: 1986 Chevrolet Corvette C4 4+3speed

The C4 Corvette was first introduced in 1984 as the future of Corvette styling.  It eschewed the traditional Vette curves for a sleek and aerodynamic look.  The inside introduced a digital LCD dash display that was going to be the future of motoring.  Ironic that the next generation Corvette, the C5, brought back curvy hips and analogue gauges, leaving the C4 as a bit of an oddity in the Corvette landscape.  Today the C4 is certainly the most affordable of Corvettes in general but don't expect the prices to stay low forever as low mile clean ones are hard to locate.  Find this 1986 Chevrolet Corvette C4 with 4+3speed manual transmission for sale in SF Bay Area, CA for $8,900 via craiglist.  Another tip from Kaibeezy.

5k: Berry Cool: 1969 Berry Mini T, VW Based Dune Buggy

We see plenty of VW based Meyers Manx dune buggy cars running around, but you don't often see the Berry Mini T.  Background info on the Mini T is hard to find, but it seems that a California company produced a few kits under the name Berry Mini T as an homage to Ford original Model T.  Find this 1969 Berry Mini T for sale in Santee, CA for $6,000 via craigslist.  Updated to include link...

5k: 7 Doors, 12 Passengers, 1 Question: 1969 Ford Galaxie Custom Limo Wagon

The fourth generation Ford Galaxie was a full sized car available from 1969 to 1974 with seating for 9 in the wagon version...that is before Stageway Coachs in Arkansas stretched it an additional 4 feet by adding another door and full row of seats.  The resulting automobile is a 1969 Ford Galaxie custom limo wagon for sale in Westminster, MD for $2995 via craigslist.

20k: End Of The I-6 Era: 2006 BMW 330ix 6-spd

BMW introduced the US spec E90 generation 3-series with a base model 325 and high end 330 model.  The 330 would be powered by the last naturally aspirated inline-6 from the company that lived on sweet sounding I-6s for decades, but did they did save the best for last?  Find this 2006 BMW 330ix 6-spd for sale in Cow Hollow, CA for $19,300 asking via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

10k: Ready To Rumble: 1965 Ford Falcon

We've heaped praises at the mid  1960's Ford Falcon before, so we don't need to continue the praise, other than to say you can get a Mustang level of usability and performance at Beetle prices.  Find this 1965 Ford Falcon V8 in Torrance, CA for $9,500 via craigslist.  The paint is new, the engine has been "tricked out" and it would look at home in any of 1000s of weekend car shows all over the country.

1k: Porsche Panamera Concept Car: Volkswagen Beetle Limo Project

Automobile manufacturers spend millions of dollars building concept vehicles to prove a design for aesthetics, packaging and performance before production releasing them to cookie-cutter production facility.  The seller of this hunk of metal thinks he has a custom Volkswagen Beetle Limo, but we know better, it is a Porsche Panamera Concept car.  The car is located in Terra Bella, CA and you can find it here on losangeles craigslist for $1,000.

10k: Alsace Chainsaw Massacre: 1985 Citroën CX Prestige

The CX was the last Citroën designed by the small company that was once Europe's largest automobile manufacturer many years before it was taken over by Peugeot.  The CX used Citroën's bizarre hydro-pneumatic self leveling suspension system and a transverse mounted inline-4 powering the front wheels.  Citroën sold over 1.2 million of the front drive sedan/wagon/fastbacks between 1974 and 1991 but never officially in the USA.  Find this 1985 Citroën CX Prestige for sale in Orange County, CA for $7900 via craigslist.  Tip from Nicholas B who writes: If they ever decide to remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre with french car parts instead of body parts, I think this shed would have a starring role.

5k: Injected Style: 1969 Toyota Corona Mark II w/3SGE +6spd swap

The first generation Toyota Corona Mark II was an intermediate model between the luxury Crown and low end basic Corona models sold between 1968-1972.  We see Mark IIs from time to time, but most are rusty and powered by a version of the underwhelming Toyota R series cast iron boat anchors, but the one we have today is a bit of a hot rod.  Find this 1969 Toyota Corona Mark II with Altezza 3SGE + 6 speed manual for sale in Alhambra, CA for $7,500 via craigslist.

5k: Cheap Fastback: 1981 Toyota Celica

There is something about a clean Toyota Celica liftback that just screams late 70s/early 80s...if you're into that kind of thing. Get out the Magnum PI shorts and mustache because this one looks like a time capsule.  Find this 1981 Toyota Celica liftback for sale in Detroit, MI for $6,000 via craigslist.  Wait...did someone say Detroit?  Maybe leave the shorts & 'stache behind and just bring a bulletproof vest...

1k Flash: Grassroots Racer: 1985 Merkur XR4Ti

The Merkur XR4Ti was the European Ford Sierra XR4Ti, but confusingly rebadged and exported for US consumption from 1985-1989. This 1985 Merkur XR4Ti has been built into a "grassroots race car" (maybe a Grassroots Motorsports Challenge car?) and is for sale in Atlanta, GA for $1,500 via craigslist.  This one has a roll cage and probably lots of questionable modifications... but...it could make a great track rat.

5k: This Car Is In Phoenix: 1977 Volkswagen GTI Mk1

The first generation Volkswagen Golf was introduced in 1974 as the replacement for the aging Nazi-era designed Beetle.  The Golf was a front drive economy car with roots in Audi's history of front drive sedans, but was underwhelming to drive in stock trim.  However, in 1975 VW introduced their GTI version that added sporting credentials to the practical hatchback.  Find this 1977 Volkswagen GTI Mk1 for sale in what we think is Phoenix, AZ for $4,500 via the Los Angeles craigslist.  Another great tip from Rod S.  Also, thanks for anon for pointing out the lack of link...oops!

10k Flash: Turbo Scat: 1980s Toyota Blizzard Diesel

The Toyota Blizzard was a small off-roader built for Toyota by Daihatsu and powered by turbocharged diesel engines.  This undisclosed model year Blizzard is for sale on the MiniTruckDealer.com website and looks awesome with the "turbo turbo turbo" graphics on the side. It is an LD20 model, so it was built some time between 1984 and 1990 and bears a striking resemblance to its 70-series Land Cruiser big brother. With 2L-T turbodiesel power it should be thrifty and fun to drive, in a Suzuki Samurai sized package. It's already outfitted with a bull bar, winch and roof rack for mini expedition duty. Current asking price is $8,999 and the truck is located in Los Angeles, CA.

Buyer Story: 1966 Ford Falcon Wagon

The 1966 Ford Falcon Wagon we featured back in March was purchased by reader Jeff S. and he sent us an update about the car.  We find these kind of buyer stories interesting and hope our readers do too.  When he bought it, the Falcon had been on/off craigslist and ebay for a while but Jeff picked it up and has already dug into making it a good daily driver.  Full story after the jump.

5k: Good For Your Teeth: 1966 Renault Caravelle

The Renault Caravelle was a small convertible from Renault based on the Dauphine.  It was marketed around the world as the Renault Floride, except in the US where this would have been confused with a dental hygiene product, but it was actually named after the sunshine state, Florida.  Find this 1966 Renault Caravelle located in San Jose, CA and currently bidding on ebay for $3,349 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go.  Tip from Scooter.

Flash: Hell Camino: 1973 Citroën DS Pickup

The Citroën DS (pronounced Déesse, like the French word for goddess) was a front-wheel-drive oddity built from 1955-1975.  Citroën never made a pickup version of the DS...so....that means that any El Camino versions are "custom."  Find this 1973 Citroën DS pickup for sale in Long Beach, CA for an undisclosed price via craiglist. Big thanks to tip from the other Bill H.

2k: Zagato Be Kidding: 1981 Lancia Beta Zagato

For an Italian car designed by Pininfarina and produced in limited quantities (less than 10,000) the Lancia Beta Zagato is particularly affordable.  The Zagato (or Spyder) was a convertiblized version of the standard Beta coupe but still featured a fixed B pillar and structurally stiffening boxed roof.  Probably a good thing for a car well known for rust and quality issues...maybe this explains why the Zagato is so cheap.  Find this 1981 Lancia Beta Zagato for sale San Francisco, CA for an asking price of $2450 via craigslist.   Tip from Nick B who says: "All the style of a Toyota Celica Sunchaser with the reliability of a Lada Riva. I still want one, though."

5k: Angry Bird: 1960 Ford T-Bird Gasser

The 2nd generation Ford Thunderbird moved the T-bird away from its Corvette sized roots and turned it into a big grand tourer, and today they can be found for cheap.  This means that all sorts of maniacs can get them for cheap and turn them into rolling pieces of art...like this Angry Birds themed "Gasser".  Find this 1960 Ford Thunderbird in Fresno, CA for $5000 via craigslist.

$$k: The Grandest Prix: 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ w/LS1 Swap

You won't often see 2nd generation A-body Pontiac Grand Prix on the road today, and this one hides a serious engine under the enormous hood.  File this one under, asking price high, but concept is awesome!  Find this 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ with LS1 V8 swap for sale in Albuquerque, NM with a starting bid of $23,000 and zero bids on ebay.
