2k: Unintended Depreciation: 1987 Audi 5000 CS Turbo Quattro

This week Ford was hit with an unintended acceleration related lawsuit, and while Toyota has recently been the victim of such slanderous claims, it was the mid-eighties Audi 5000 that was the original scapegoat for bad drivers who ran over nuns, dogs, children and desperately wanted to avoid incarceration.  To heap insult on top of injury, Audi owners who hadn't killed anyone recently sued Audi USA for loss in resale value due to the widespread media attention about the issue.  How can Audi owners claim that bad press caused the depreciation when Audis have always suffered from sub-par build quality, complex Rube Goldberg systems for just about everything, and expensive routine repairs, all of which leads to residual value dropping faster than stock prices in a company that mislabels IEDs as IUDs?  The rapid post dealer lot price drop has not gone unnoticed to us at the Daily Turismo and we love cheap used Audis.  Find this 1987 Audi 5000 CS Turbo Quattro for sale in San Jose, CA for $1,800 via craigslist.  Thanks to tip from Kaibeezy T.

DTPC: Revised Concept for the ipd $25000 Build Off

by CFlo

After some feedback from our readers and a week to mull over the original design, I've made some changes to the "Bizarro Trans-Am" concept sketch for the Daily Turismo Project Car (DTPC) Volvo 242. As we posted last Thorsday, we'll be entering ipd's $25,000 Build Off with our little white '83 two door and we want to make sure we get it right before it gets submitted!

1k Flash: Black Plate And Bondo Beauty Queen: 1969 Ford Club Wagon Van

Today's DT flash feature is covered in a fine patina of bondo and honesty.  The seller doesn't try to convince us this turd is a gem, in fact he starts off with the statement "Not a good van to try and impress a gal on first date."  Truer words haven't been published on craigslist.  Find this 1969 Ford Club Wagon Van for sale in La Cañada (not to be confused with 'O Canada' - the Canadian national anthem), CA for $1500 via craigslist.

5k: I-Roll In My V8lvo: 1985 Volvo 740 Wagon w/ 5.0V8 and T-5

Anyone familiar with early 90's hip hop artist Robert Matthew Van Winkle (aka Vanilla Ice) will know his ode-to-the-Mustang single "Rollin In My 5.0" and anyone familiar with Volvo history will know the genesis of the company's name comes from the Latin "volvere," literally "I roll".  Mix one part 5.0 and one Volvo...ergo, I-roll in my Volvo.  Painful explanation of the bad pun complete, we move on to the car.  Find this 1985 Volvo 740 wagon with a Mustang 5.0 V8 and T-5 manual transmission for sale in Mount Vernon, OR for $3,500 via craigslist.  Thanks to reader Arthur C. for the tip.

We recently got the opportunity to write a guest post for the MotoringConBrio website - which features a fantastic daily dose of vintage cars and just about the best photos of cars on the internet.  The DT guest post is about the Best Used Car Bargains Between $5k-15k and can be found on the MotoringConBrio site here.

5k: Easter Egg: 1969 MG MGB GT

The MGB was a basic 2 seat sports car from Morris Garage and had a remarkable production run from 1962-1980.  Many upgrades were made to the MGB in those years, none has visually striking as the GT hardtop version designed by Italian design house Pininfarina and released in 1965.  Find this 1969 MG MGB GT hatchback in nice condition, offered for $7,500 via craigslist in Temecula, CA.

5k: Lime Green Limo: 1971 Ford Torino Wagon; Survivor

It is no secret that we love wagons at the DailyTurismo, but more specifically we love wagons that are well maintained classics in original condition offered at a reasonable price!  A Torino wagon popped up on our radar that ticket all of the right boxes...and we half-way considering buying it for a daily driver.  Find this 1971 Ford Torino Wagon is offered for sale in Antelope Valley, CA for the bargain price of $6300 via craigslist.

2k: Cougar Bait: 1981 Mercury Cougar XR7 Coupe

The Mercury Cougar led an interesting life before the Mercury brand name was dissolved in 2010. The Cougar has been variously based on Mustang, Thunderbird and Mondeo platforms, but the non-Mustang versions are tragic. Find this "pony cousin" Fox body 1981 Mercury Cougar XR7 Coupe for sale in Moon Township, PA for $2750 via craigslist.  Big thanks to tip from DT reader Doug!

NoPrice: Stuttgart Steamer: 1968 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3; Some Assy Required

Here at the Daily Turismo we prefer our potential cars to be used and depreciated classics in daily driver condition, as this tends to give us the best value for our money and time.  There are however, some cars that fall outside of our normal budget unless they are in dilapidated condition.  This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 certainly qualifies as a project car and could be a wicked cruiser when finished.  Find it for sale in the SF Bay Area, CA for 'accepting-all-offers' via craigslist and stay with us as we discuss why this may be a project worth your time.

5k: Bugaru: '65/'71 Subaru Powered Baja Bug

The Volkswagen Beetle has been subjected to all sorts of customizations over the years, but the Baja Bug is clearly the favorite of the torch wielding redneck.  Add some flared fenders, big sand or mud tires, raise the suspension and the Beetle goes from a budget family transporter to a budget rally and dune machine. And with a modern engine swap, its power to weight ratio will be notable. This Subaru powered Baja Bug project is a 1971 body sitting on a 1965 floorpan, and is for sale in Wabash, IN for $3,800 via craigslist.

2k Flash: Back To Basics: 1986 Peugeot 505, 5spd, Survivor

The Peugeot 505 was the final rear-wheel-drive car from French automaker Peugeot and was produced in stunning quantities worldwide, even though you don't see many here in the United States.  Between 1979 and 1995, over one million 505s were built in factories in France, Argentina, China, Indonesia and Taiwan, but only a few made it to the US, and fewer remain on the road today.  Find this 1986 Peugeot 505 with 5spd trans for sale in the SF Bay Area, CA for $2,500 via craigslist.  Another great find from DT regular Kaibeezy T!

DTPC: Professional Drifter Carl Rydquist Gives Us Drifting Lessons In A Stock Volvo 242

It is not often that we get the chance to have professional drivers hoon in our project car, so when professional drifter (no...not a hobo, the automotive kind of drifter) Carl Rydquist offered to give us a few tips in the Daily Turismo Project Car, our 1983 Volvo 242 DL, we jumped at the opportunity.

5k: Boosted Ute; 1985 Volvo 240 Turbo Custom Pickup

In the vast pantheon of automotive interest, there are as many different preferences as there are auto enthusiasts. Some of us like clean stock rides, some like wild custom hot rods, and some are in between. We know there has to be someone out there looking for a light-duty "ute" / El Camino style pickup truck, a Volvo 240 Turbo, and sweet '80s Swedish flag themed graphics all at the same time. But if you're that person, you may not realize that they can all exist simultaneously as one vehicle. The good news is - the mischievous Norse god Loki is smiling down on you - and this vehicle does indeed exist, and can be yours! Find it here on the turbobricks forums for $6k or reasonable offer in Harbor City, CA.

5k: The Future Is Faded Plastic: 1999 Isuzu VehiCROSS 4X4

5k: Banana Yellow Bluebird: 1972 Datsun 510 w/SR20DET Swap; Some Assy Required

The Nissan Bluebird was sold as the Datsun 510 from 1968 to 1973 and has a reputation as a poor man's BMW 2002.  Equipped with a stock engine and suspension, the 510 isn't thrilling to drive, but bolt on some go-fast goodies and the 2200 lb chassis comes alive.  Find this 1972 Datsun 510 with SR20DET engine partially installed, currently bidding on ebay for $5,300 with 4 days to go and located in Frisco, TX.

25k: Better Than A BRZ: 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe Turbo

If you've ever surfed over to the Canadian version of craiglist called kijiji, you have invariably found a motley assortment of Zambonis, ice fishing rigs, swamp tundra buggies, Ford Model Ehs, and all manner of salvaged-from-moose-impact vehicles.  But every once in a while a rare vehicle is listed that hasn't been bitten by the tin worm or crashed while playing car-hockey on Top Gear Canada.  Find this 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe for $25,000 CAD ($24,464 USD) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada via kijijijijijijijijijijijij.ca.  Thanks to tip from Andy L.

1k: Banana Boat: 1975 Toyota Corolla Wagon

We love simple rear drive econo-boxes and they don't get much simpler than the 3rd generation E30 Toyota Corolla.  The wagon version is equipped with a small pushrod 4 cylinder engine mated to a solid beam rear axle; simple and effective for a family transporter.  Find this 1975 Toyota Corolla wagon in North Hollywood, CA for $1,550 via craigslist.

2.5k: Cheap Woodie: 1971 Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon, Vintage, Zombie Proof
