10k: Squalo Giallo: 1967 Volvo 1800S

The Volvo 1800S is one of our favorite classic 2-seaters to feature on the pages of DT (along with the other 1800 variations), especially when we find one that is clean, cheap and classy.  The original P1800's sheetmetal was designed by Pelle Petterson while he worked at Carrozzeria Pietro Frua - an Italian coachbuilder from back in the day - and its mechanical parts were hewn of sturdy Scandinavian stuff.  Nice ones are out there and today's Ferrari yellow feature is no exception.  Find this 1967 Volvo 1800S for sale in Charlotte, NC for $12,000 via craigslist.  Tip from J Bourne.

The craigslist ad doesn't provide much information other than to say that this 1800S has a less than 2 year old coat of "Ferrari Yellow" paint and a recently rebuilt/upgraded engine.  If it runs fast and has cold AC (as the seller states) this could be a great deal.

This one's a bit of a whimsical restomod; besides the obvious giallo we spy a Ferrariesque hood scoop, front quarter panel vents, a forward-mounted wing mirror, bumper delete and what look to be steel disc wheels. No mention is made of the other mods and we can only hope the interior is tasteful and the engine runs as good as it looks. In this case, a pair of Weber two-barrel sidedraught carbs would be appropriate to round out the Italian Stallion theme. They would (appropriately) make the car finicky to start and harder to keep in tune, too.

  2. Sorry. But I ain't feeling this one. Hood scoop is pretty ostentatious for a redblock. And the bumper delete leaves me cold since it leaves the face with a bit of an overbite. It may be the pic but the side vent looks like it has a ton of overspray. Then the black rubber radio antennae is just not my shot of whiskey. Definitely need more info to justify the asking, but that's for the interested party to determine.
