15k: 4-Door Vette: 2005 Cadillac CTS-V

Back to the basics with this post after a few overpriced projects, in the shape of one of my favorite Corvette powered cars. The Cadillac CTS-V is a modern hot-rod sedan from General Motors and prices are very reasonable in the market today.  Find this 2005 Cadillac CTS-V for sale in Billings, MT for $13,000 via craigslist.  Tip from Oldsmobuick.

10k: World's Most Expensive Beetle: 1969 Porsche 912 Barn Find

If one vintage "barn find" is good - two must be better...right?  Fear not - we aren't planning some kind of all-barn-find day, but it does give us a good chance to compare two similarly priced cars with similar restoration needs but completely different markets.  Find this 1969 Porsche 912 project for $9,999 via craigslist, located in Berkeley, CA.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

10k: Beach Town Find: 1970 Ford Torino GT 429

The Torino was an intermediate sized sedan, coupe, fastback or convertible available from Ford starting in 1968.  The Torino was restyled in 1970 with a sleek "coke bottle" shape designed for aerodynamics and to emulate 60s fighter jets, but only the 429 big block powered versions had the thrust to match a jet.  Find this 1970 Ford Torino GT 429 for sale in Hermosa Beach, CA currently bidding for $9,100 on ebay with 2 days to go.

2k: 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24, w/ 3.5L V6 Swap

The second generation Chevrolet Cavalier was launched in 1988 as Chevrolet's compact economy car, following in the footsteps of the Monza, Nova, Corvair, etc.  It isn't old enough to be collectible and its front-drive chassis was built more for economy than for performance, but at least the Z24 version had pretensions of being sporty.  Fortunately, the builder of today's feature fixed the performance issue with a 3.5 liter V6 swap from a 2005 Malibu.  Find this 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 w/ 3.5L V6 swap for sale in Suffolk County, NY for $2,200 via craigslist.  Tip from Cory.

10k: EldoRADo: 1996 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Custom, Low Miles

The 11th generation of Cadillac's Eldorado mid-sized 2-door personal luxury coupe was introduced in 1992 and shuffled around aimlessly until the plug was finally pulled in 2002.  It had been 35 years since the Eldorado had shed its classic rear-drive setup and became a front-drive tire burning luxury coupe.  The front-drive setup allowed the GM E-body (shared with post '79 Buick Riviera and Olds Toronado) to focus on providing a large cabin space free of transmission humps.  Most buyers of the E-body were more concerned with missing the latest episode of Matlock than missing rear-drive handling dynamics, but eventually the magazine pundits and GM management killed this front drive dinosaur in the name of NĂĽrburgring lap times.  Find this 1996 Cadillac Eldorado custom convertible for sale in Marietta, GA currently bidding on ebay for $9,750 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

10k: Kurierwagen Kustom: 1974 Volkswagen Thing Type 181, Horrorod

In the genre of horror movies there are movies that disgust, disturb and surprise the audience with fantastic creatures and skin crawling special effects, but the movies that are arguably the best are those that hide information from the viewer and allow imagination to take over.  John Carpenter's 1982 remake of The Thing was a decent expression of this idea, but it pales in comparison to the original The Thing, a 1951 Howard Hawks epic, shot in magnificent black and white.  The original Thing is played by James Arness, and is a giant outer world Frankenstein-esque creature who regenerates limbs like a plant and terrorizes an arctic outpost of scientists (and a few wise cracking '50s babes).  Viewers are barely shown the beast and brief glimpses only help to generate more uncertainty, anxiety, etc --if you haven't seen it go pick up a copy from your local video store...wait, do they still have video stores?  I haven't left my house since I saw John Carpenter's The Thing in 1982 -- really scary film.  Today's feature 1974 Volkswagen Thing is the polar opposite of the movie Thing as it beats a viewer over the head with a rusty cudgel of gruesome horror. Find it in Greensboro, GA currently bidding on ebay for $9,000 reserve-not-met with 4 days to go.

10k: Blue Fin Sashimi: 1973 Toyota Celica ST

The first generation Celica isn't a fast car in stock form, but it is an excellent chassis for a good restomod (restoration/modification).  Don't do all the work yourself, instead pick up something like this 1973 Toyota Celica ST offered with a fresh coat of blue paint, fender flares, some "fat" wheels, a rebuilt 20R engine and more classic JDM style than you can shake a chopstick at.  Find it on Los Angeles area craigslist for $8,500 asking.

5k: Black Gold: 1981 Datsun 280ZX S130

The S130 generation Nissan Fairlady Z was sold as the Datsun 280ZX in North America from 1979 through 1983.   The S130 may not have been as light or sporty as its predecesor, but it added a few bits of luxury in eventually a turbocharger to Nissan's sports car.  Find this 1981 Datusn 280ZX S130 for sale in Santa Rosa, CA for $2,600.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

5k: Bed, Bathtub & Beyond Body-On-Frame: 1949 Nash Super 600 2-Door

The Nash Super 600 was a big upside-down tub styled behemoth built in Kenosha, WI by the Nash-Kelvinator corporation.  Internet rumor has it that the Nash 600 was the first car to use unibody construction and the name 600 comes from the total distance you could drive on one tank of fuel (20 gal tank, 30 do the math...).   Find this 1949 Nash Super 600 2-door for sale in Henderson, MD currently bidding on ebay for $4,950 with 2 days to go.

3k: Rootes Arrow: 1969 Sunbeam Alpine GT, Some Assy Required

The Sunbeam Alpine GT was a badge engineered 2-door, built on the Rootes Group Arrow platform that produced such fine examples of UK engineering as the Hillman Hunter, Humber Sceptre and Singer Gazelle.  These names are unfamiliar to our North America-centric brains, but when Chrysler purchased the Rootes Group in 1967, they decided to import some of the Arrow lineup to the US market.  For a variety of reasons (unreliability, lack of performance, zero brand recognition - you pick!) the Alpine GT was not successful in the US market and was only sold from 1969-1970 in limited qualities (less than 5,000 total).  Find this 1969 Sunbeam Alpine GT project for sale in Sioux Falls, SD for $3,000 via craigslist. Tip from Andy L.

5k: Sale-ica: 1985 Toyota Celica GT Liftback, Low Miles

The 3rd generation A60 Toyota Celica was the final rear-drive chassis to use the Celica name.  It added rack-and-pinion steering for the first time and the nice ones are becoming classics instead of being crushed into recycled metal and shipped back to the far east.  This one, despite being slushbox equipped, caught our eye for its low miles, low price and clean condition.  Find this 1985 Toyota Celica for sale in Western MA for $5,700 via craigslist.

2.5k: Rally Canuck: 1979 Volvo 242GT

In contrast to the stanced out hellaflushed-down-the-toilet craze going on today with all manner of Japanese and European cars, some people are still not afraid to go old-school and raise the ride height of their project car. Older rear wheel drive Volvos are perfect for this; they were designed from the start to trudge through Scandanavian winters and are very common as privateer rally cars in their homeland. So instead of stretched tires, "fitment," and 25 degrees of negative camber, today we bring you a sweet little rally-prepped machine. Find this 1979 Volvo 242GT Rally Car here on in Monte Creek, BC Canada for $2500 CDN.

5k: A Few Liters of Cologne:1972 Porsche 914 w/ Ford V6

The Porsche 914 is one of those inexpensive classics that we love to feature because they offer a decent performance per dollar ratio compared to other flat four powered P-cars like the 912 or 356.  However, even the 2.0 liter examples are still pokey compared to modern autos and we always enjoy finding ones with bigger teeth.  Find this 1972 Porsche 914 with Ford V6 for $7,900 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

5k: Pair of Projects: 1970 & 1974 Lotus Europa

It is a good time to be in the market for a Lotus Europa project as there are a few cheap examples on ebay right now.  First is 1974 Lotus Europa Twin-Cam for currently bidding for $4,400, reserve-not-met in San Tan Valley, AZ with 3 days to go.  Next is a 1970 Lotus Europa S2 for sale in Fairfield, OH currently bidding for $2,297 with less than one day to go.

15k: Batman's Truffle: 1975 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe CC

Today's first feature comes in the form of a seller submission from Batman.  Seriously.  Not joking.  The first part of the seller's last name is Batman and in our mind he fights crime by day and plays a millionaire debutante by night. This Batman doesn't drive some Hollywood CGI-enhanced custom based on a Chevy Impala chassis, he drives a Fiat.  Find this 1975 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe CC for $14,500 in Washington, D.C. via craigslist. Seller submission from Batman.

5k: Wild Rover: 1991 Sterling 827 SL

The Sterling 827 was a rebadged Rover 800 series, which was in truth designed and developed by Honda and shared many parts with the Acura Legend.  There was a time when it was common to see a Sterlings on the road in the US, but today they are rarely seen driving around anywhere.  Find this 1991 Sterling 827 SL for sale in Concordia, KS for $6,500 via craigslist.  Tip from Andy L.

20k: Double Take: 1980 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Camper

The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is a giant 4-wheel-drive overpriced truck from those crazy guys in Germany.  Typically seen on southern California streets driven by well preserved older women, it is a status symbol for the wealthy elite around the world, so in today's context it does seem strange that someone would transform it into the ultimate camper home. But these were born as military vehicles and have always been comparable to Range Rovers, Land Cruisers and Jeeps in terms of offroad capability. Find this 1980 Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen camper currently bidding for $20,158 reserve-not-met in Grand Rapids, MI via ebay.

5k: Future Classic? 1989 Shelby CSX, Minty Clean

The Chrysler corporation produced an entirely underwhelming automobile badged as the Dodge Shadow and Plymouth Sundance from 1987-1994. It was an abysmally slow front wheel drive crapcan assembled by idiots and sold to fools.  Salvation for the Shadowdance came from the famed Texas chicken farmer with a ten gallon hat by the name of Shelby.  Find this 1989 Shelby CSX for sale on ebay in Laguna Beach, CA currently bidding for $1,875 with 4 days to go.  Tip from Rod S.

10k: Fake Z: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track Pack 6-spd

Walk around New York city enough and all sorts of enthusiastic salesmen will try to offer you a fake Rolex, fake Puma-Ferrari branded shoes, and fake purses. Ignore them - you need to head into Brooklyn to find a fake Nissan 370Z. It's not really a 370Z ripoff, but being equipped with a big V6 up front and edgy Japanese-ish 2-door styling, a Hyundai Genesis Coupe certainly does a great impersonation! Find this 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track Pack 6-spd for sale in Brooklyn, NY for $8995 via craigslist.
