SAABs, CJs, Caddys Oh My! Ten Daily Drivers In Springfield, MO

We've noticed some grumblings in the comments about too many left coast features (and not enough $50k E30 M3s..but we ignore those comments and ban the accts promptly)...it probably has something to do with our own Commifornia daily driver searches spilling onto the pages of DT as well as that of some of our regular tippers.  Fear not, east-coast & mid-west drivers, for DT tipper James C has come to the rescue with a cornucopia of mid-western classics.  Buy them all after you sell your $50k E30 M3.  Find a 2006 SAAB 9-3 Aero for $13k, a '88 SAAB 900 Turbo 'Vert for $2200, a '72 Chevy Camaro for $8k, a '67 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special for $7k, a '71 Ford Bronco for $8k, a '79 Jeep CJ7 for $4k, an '83 Datsun Pickup for $3495, an '82 Datsun 280ZX for $6k, a '97 BMW Z3 'vert for $4700, or a '97 Honda Civic del Sol Si for $4200 via Springfield Craigslist.  Big thanks to tipper James C for this poor man's bucket list.

James did such a great job with his tips that we are just going to use most of his words to introduce the cars.  Editor additions in italics.

First up a 2006 SAAB 9-3 Aero for $13k, complete with a few bolt-on performance parts to augment the 2.8 liter turbocharged V6 mated via a 6-speed manual trans to the front wheels.  Expect lots of torque steer and one-wheel-peel.

Next is a  '88 SAAB 900 Turbo 'Vert for (with a few more miles) but only $2200.

For those looking for a classic American muscle, a '72 Chevy Camaro for $8k with NOM 350, with auto, and ghost flames (not a big fan of the high cowl hood though.

Or maybe to cruise in style in a  '67 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special ($7000)

Maybe they want to run in a retro 4X4, a classic  '71 Ford Bronco ($8000)

Or a '79 Jeep CJ7 ($4000)

Maybe they are wanting something Japanese, like this '83 Datsun Pickup with 81k miles ($3495)

Or the  '82 Datsun 280ZX ($6000) with 77k miles

Last but not least, since it is summer, some more open motoring with a choice in all 3 formats:-
drop-top with a '97 BMW Z3 'vert (guessing high miles but the ad isn't specific) $4700.  4-banger equipped Z3, slow but still fun to drive.

Targa motoring with '97 Honda Civic del Sol Si (180k miles but come on it's a Honda) $4200

Bonus...

and totally open motoring, a VW based dune buggy ($3200).

So, hopefully this insane list of 10..11.. quashes any comments about lack of awesome midwest cars.  See something better that we missed? email us here: tips@dailyturismo.com

  1. You guys kill me!

As a proud citizen of the Peoples Republic of Commifornia, known as that only to those who yearn for the days of Nixon, Agnew Reagan and Bush, I say here...here..here!

Not to say there arent plenty of Wrong Coast worthy vehicles. In a misspent youth of car obsession, long before my portly age cohorts with more money than sense distorted the passion of car collecting, I too had the misfortune of owning many a Wrong Coast machine....everything from a 49 Packard to a '65 Cad Sedan De Ville........

So bring on the denizens of Tin Worm world!
