3k: Wolf In A Clown Suit: 1974 Opel Manta A Ford V8

We've recently featured a few Opel Manta As on the pages of DT, so it should come as no surprise that we are fans of the often forgotten Manta.  However, you should ask yourself: why is it that I don't see many Manta's on the road today? Perhaps it is the lackluster performance?  Sloppy assembly that makes you yearn for Eastern European quality control?  Or a chassis that attracts rust like an exposed thong attracts cousins at a Kentucky family reunion.  Anyway you cut it, there are many reasons to not own a Manta...but...dropping a Ford V8 into the front changes the equation considerably, sort of like finding out the lady with the pink whale tale is your cousin...once removed.  Find this 1974 Opel Manta A with Ford V8 for sale in Mount Wolf, PA for $3,000 via craigslist.  Tip from Tinman

The Manta was marketed as a performance car, but only available from the factory with a number of sub-2 liter inline-4 cylinder engines, making it a competitor to only a few cars on this side of the Altantic in 1970.  Equally perplexing was the placement of Opels in Buick dealerships after they were imported by GM.  Whatever, the past is behind us, and this Opel Manta is properly powered by a 289 cubic inch Ford V8 good for a claimed 67289 horsepower.

  1. I dont think that whale tail is legal until twice removed.

  2. ~ drat, i really tried to like it.
. let me see.... $3000 into 67289HP equals about -how much per....? well, interesting idea, potential pocket-change rocket, 'custom paint', the hard parts complete, ...
. i'm still trying. the aluminum BOPR 3.5L V8 woulda been my choice for a transplant. 100 fewer pounds over the front wheels.

  3. Now I understand why I've read Pennsylvania written as "Pennsyltucky" before.

This would be perfect in the background of a Weird Al music video. Otherwise, it's just a joke.

  4. I am thinking about dropping my ford 5.4dohc in one. T56 trans behind it. But don't worry I've got an aluminum flywheel for it. Oh and if the turbos I have laying around end up on it I will be sure to mount them in the trunk to help offset a bit of weight. That should help you guys sleep better.
