15k: Oldtimeranzeige: 1978 Mercedes-Benz 240D W115 Wagon

The Mercedes-Benz W114/W115 was a predecessor to the modern E-Class, and available with a variety of inline four gas, inline six gas and inline four diesel engines from 1968-1976.  It was sold in epic numbers as a 2-door and 4-door sedan, but internet rumor has it that Mercedes-Benz built 2000 of the touring variety along with a number built by coach-builders Crayford (UK), Binz (Belgium), Pollmann, Rappold, Miesen (Germany), Harper, Hooper (USA) Cooper & Cooper (South Africa) and Santos (Portugal).  Needless to say, these don't come up for sale very often, but they demand a significant premium over the sedan.  Find this 1978 Mercedes-Benz 240D W115 Wagon for sale in Germany for €12,500 ($16,577 USD) via  Tip from Klaus Schmoll via kinja/oppositelock/jalopnik... whatever you call it.

First off before you start flooding the comments, we understand were under the impression that W115 production ceased in 1976, but there is a small chance this car has a 1978 title due to the coachbuilder, or the seller is simply mistaken on the model year.  Regardless it is powered by the OM616 2.4 liter inline four cylinder pump-line-nozzle diesel engine putting out 65 horsepower.  Attached to a 4-speed manual the performance is abysmal, but the slushbox versions are downright punishing hair-shirts to drive, however you drive a W115 for style, not for speed.

The seller didn't provide any rear view photos of the wagon, and the interwebs was little help, but we did find this one side view from forums - but this is another version of a W115 wagon, not the same model as above.

  1. Wicked W115, wrong continent! I think Mercedes built some of these as ambulance/hearses back in the day.

  2. Achtung!

Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' out the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany

In the nick of time, a hero arose
A funny-looking dog with a big black nose
He flew into the sky to seek revenge
But the Baron shot him down--"Curses, foiled again!"

Now, Snoopy had sworn that he'd get that man
So he asked the Great Pumpkin for a new battle plan
He challenged the German to a real dogfight
While the Baron was laughing, he got him in his sight

That Bloody Red Baron was in a fix
He'd tried everything, but he'd run out of tricks
Snoopy fired once, and he fired twice
And that Bloody Red Baron went spinning out of sight

Driving off into the sunset in one of these super cool W115 wagons, doncha know!
