1k: Perfect Combo Of Rare And Average: 1980 Ford Fairmont, Survivor

Sometimes a tip comes with enough commentary from the sender to compose an entire today's feature is written by tipper Andy L. In his words: I am sending you this car because it is both rare and yet the most completely average car I think I have ever seen.  If you asked an eight-year-old to draw a picture of a car with a red crayon it would probably look like this one.  Find this 1980 Ford Fairmont for sale on eBay in Des Moines, Iowa with 5 days to go.  Tip and text by Andy L!

You could also say that it has the profile of a Ferrari 400i if you squint a little. I also like the fact that it is a clean slate for a straight-forward sleeper conversion of your liking.

The manual tranny linkages are already there, and it would not be any trick to put a nicely warmed-over 302 inside. You would probably have money left over to put in a stronger 5-speed and a worthy rear-end, also.

Got your own tip and text? Make it good and we'll reprint it. Anything with reference to Amanda Bynes lighting someone's lawn on fire will be instantly published.

  1. Note to readers: I just added the link above, fear not if you were looking for it earlier!

  2. I wanted to like this car, but when I clicked on the link and saw more pictures I threw up in my mouth a little bit.
But on the bright side in one of the pictures there is a nice Chevy Nova II Wagon in the background.

  3. My grandfather had one of these in station wagon form back when I was about 15. I remember that the horn was on a push stalk on the steering column, not on the steering wheel. Wondered who came up with that brilliant design.

  4. "Wondered who came up with that brilliant design."

Probably some faceless, clueless mid-level manager on a trip to Europe. He saw that somewhere and thought that was the greatest design advancement since the windshield wiper. I'm used to seeing a stalk mounted horn switch on a French car. On an American one, not so much.
