15k: Needs More LS1: Beck Knobbly Lister Replicar

The Knobbly-Lister race cars were built and campaigned in 1957-58 with similarities to the AC/Shelby Cobra introduced in 1961. The idea was the brainchild of Brian Lister and the cars were very successful in the 1958 season, powered by Jaguar I-6s and Corvette V8s.  Fast forward 40 years and Chuck Beck (of Beck 550 Spyder fame) designed and built a number of Lister replicas and eventually sold the rights to a company called Avanti. Avanti went belly-up in 2006 due to allegations that the owners were involved in a Ponzi scheme...clearly in violation of the US federal government monopoly on such activities.  The history of this Lister Replicar is indeed fascinating and this one can be purchased for $12,500 sans drivetrain via craigslist, in San Clemente, CA.

5k: Clutch Player: 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250S W108, Rare 4-spd

The Mercedes-Benz 250S was an early base model of the S-Class W108 chassis.  Many we built between 1965 and 1969, but few were equipped with the 4-speed manual transmission - making this car one rare piece of unicorn steak.  Fire up the BBQ and take a look at this 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250S W108 4-spd for sale in San Diego, CA for a basement price of $2500 via craigslist.

DT COW: Better Than Dysentery

A recent DT post about the cheap Honda Insight on Jalopnik's opposite lock got a great comment from an enthusiastic Jalop. In his own words:

After seeing one at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show I resolved that ... I ... must ... have ... one ... And indeed I did, and still do, in this very same color....The Shoebox Sub and 240w Eclipse system takes my mind off the less than stellar comfort on long trips, and I tell myself it's waaay more comfortable than a Conestoga wagon. Or dysentery.  In short, I love it.

5k Flash: Cop Style: 1967 Plymouth Belvedere Police Cruiser

Nothing looks as menacing in your rear view mirror as the horns/lights of a black and white patrol car from the local PD.  The modern Crown Vic replacements (Taurus, Charger, etc) look high tech and blacked out, but our favorites are still the classics as seen on Adam-12 or the ones that get wrecked in movies like Gone in 60 Seconds..  Find this 1967 Plymouth Belvedere Police Cruiser for sale in Sunland, CA for $6,500 via craigslist.

5k: ETA Tester: 1986 BMW 325; E30 5spd 66k miles

In an attempt to avoid the label of being stereotypical BMW E30 fanboys, we are going to start this listing with a disclaimer that not only do we not own flat brim hats, but we've never tasted monster energy drink and never use the expression "no worries". Unfortunately during the late '80s most American cars were manufactured to the torsional rigidity of a cereal box, Japanese cars were unfun-wheel-drive, Scandinavian cars had engines built by Scandinavians, British cars were all but extinct, French cars were quirky at best, Italian cars rusted on delivery trucks and only German cars combined decent build quality, fun power plants and dynamic handling.  Of the Germans, Mercedes had un-invented the clutch in a complicated patent office filing and Audi was trying to figure out how to make a head gasket out of fruit roll ups...leaving the mustached engineers from München to deliver proper automobiles. Find this proper 1986 BMW 325es 5spd for sale in San Diego, CA for $3999 via craigslist.

5k: Keep It In The Familia: 1988 Mazda 323 GTX AWD Turbo

The US version of the Mazda 323 GTX was based on 5th generation (internal designation BF) Mazda Familia - a basic economy car for the family.  The 323GTX version equipped the econobox with a turbocharger, all-wheel-drive and a manual transmission.  Today the market for 323 GTX is well depressed and we fully expect the good examples to start appreciating soon.  Find this 1988 Mazda 323 GTX for sale in Kirkland, WA currently bidding on ebay for $1,725 with 2 days to go.

5k: 3 for 5: 1968 AH Sprite, 1965 Spitfire, 1970 Olds Toronado 455

As promised, we continue Thrifty Thursday by bringing another truck load of cheap classics...but this time we figure a package deal is in order.  Instead of throwing all of your money into one rusty pile, imagine picking up 3 classics for less than $5k.  Find this SoCal trio in the form of a 1968 Austin-Healey Sprite for $1200 in Ventura, CA, a 1965 Triumph Spitfire for $1350 in Santa Clarita Valley, CA and a 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado 455 for $1600 in Burbank, CA via craigslist.

5k Flash: Unwanted CobraJet: 1967 Mercury Park Lane 428

The Mercury Park Lane looks cool in the fastback version and can be equipped with Ford's hot 428 CobraJet just isn't collectable and even the nicest examples don't sell for anything near other full sized Ford fastbacks from the '60s.  We have no problem with affordable classics and think this 1967 Mercury Park Lane with 428 CJ would look great parked in our lane, for sale in Chicago, IL for $6,000 via craigslist.

5k: Thrifty Thursday: 1999 BMW 528i Touring, E39 5-spd Wagon, Unicorn

Welcome to Thifty Thursday - and today we are going to focus on the cheap, cheap, cheap.  The features on DT today will make your new Ford Fiesta look as expensive and overpriced as a Rolls Royce Phantom and that is just the start of it.  Everybody wants cheap, manual transmission, fun to drive, useable, rear-drive, drivable cars, with working air conditioning -- so we are going to obsessively focus on these...with a few riddlers thrown in the mix.  Start the day off right with a hot cup of BMW Touring; find this 1999 BMW 528i wagon with 5-spd manual transmission for sale in San Mateo, CA for $5,000 via craigslist.  Another BayArea BMW from DT logo guru Kaibeezy.

Car Shows: Swede Fest, Redondo Beach, CA Saturday June 1, 2013

SoCal Volvo Sports America is hosting their annual Swede Fest gathering of shiny or shabby Swedish cars of all vintages this Saturday in Redondo Beach near the finish line for the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash....actually just down the street at Ruby's diner.  Swede Fest is a free naturally we will bring the DTPC down to the beach for some exercise and hope that perhaps someone will have a functioning MAF for sale.  If you are going to be at the event come by and say hi, I'm the guy in the rough running Volvo...with DT stickers on it.

5k: Sink Or Cinq: 1985 Peugeot 505 S

French automaker Peugeot built over 1.3 million of its 505 sedans for worldwide consumption between 1979 and 1999, a staggering number all things considered.  The 505 was rather successful in the third world where its comfortable ride over rough roads and simple front engine / rear drive layout made the constant repairs easy for non-French reading mechanics.  Very few clean examples of the 505 remain on the road today, but even the nicest examples can be picked up for chump change.  Find this 1985 Peugeot 505 S for sale in Staten Island, NY for $4,200 via   Thanks to tip from IgnatiusReilly.

5k: Spokane For: 1972 Volvo 1800

The Volvo 1800 is one of those underappreciated classics that can still be found for a song/dance from time to time.  Typically examples for less than $5k will include a lot of rust and rat's nests - this one is no exception, but it does run/drive at a roller price.  Find this 1972 Volvo 1800 for sale in Spokane MT for $3,500 via craigslist.

5k: Bustrocity: GM Scenicruiser Bus w/ 1976 GMC Motorhome Title

Not exactly a good daily driver, but certainly an interesting piece of metal, this 1950s Greyhound GM Scenicruiser bus has been re-titled as a 1976 GMC Motorhome and is being sold in Tampa Bay, FL for $5,000 via craigslist.  The PD-4501 Scenicruser was an aluminum sided passenger bus made by GM for Greyhound between 1954 to 1956, but has been stripped from the inside and is now a "blank canvas" according to the sellers. Chances are good that it's still powered by a 9.3 liter Detroit Diesel 8V-71 two stroke supercharged diesel V8 screamer. What would you do with a split level RV? Park it in front of your 1950's split level ranch? Mid Century Modern is, after all, totally "in" right now.

??k: Ramses' Chariot: 1980s Fiero-Trike, Riddler

Sometime in the 13th Century BC the largest ever recorded battle involving chariots took place in the city of Qadesh in what is now modern day Syria.  King Ramses II of the Egyptian Empire engaged Muwatalli II of the Hitites with a combined force of roughly 6000 chariots and 60,000 men.  Chariots ruled the ancient world until armored knights proved far more mobile than the 2 wheel + 1 horse setup and became obsolete.  However, until an unnamed builder in Grand Rapids, MI combined the proud history of the chariot with GM's 2-seat mid-engine '80s sports icon for a stunningly futuristic view of future warfare.  Find the Fiero-Trike for sale via craigslist at an undisclosed asking price.

15k: Sidekick To The Face: 1994 Geo Tracker w/ 512hp Turbo S2000 Engine

The last Geo Tracker (Suzuki Sidekick) we featured was a Ford V8 powered but stock looking beast, but today's Tracker puts that one to shame with an insane 512 horsepower turbocharged F20C swap from a Honda S2000.  This 1994 Geo Tracker is for sale in Earlysville, VA currently with zero bids on ebay at $14,000 minimum and a few hours to go.  Probably best to wait for this one to come back around again on ebay with a lower starting bid and reserve, but the idea of a 512 horsepower Geo Tracker has us intrigued.

5k: School Bus Yellow: 1965 Ford Falcon Futura Wagon

Clean Ford Falcon wagons show up on our radar from time-to-time, but this was one was unique because it is resplendent in a stunning shade of school bus yellow.  Find this 1965 Ford Falcon Futura Wagon for sale in Apple Valley, CA for $5,500 via craigslist.  The second generation Falcon was only built in 1964-65 and is arguably the coolest of all Falcons.  Fortunately for us it was overshadowed by the ever-popular Mustang, back in the day and in modern times, making it today both cheaper and more uncommon than the sporty 2+2 it shares most components with.  Thanks to tip from Scooter.

10k: Like New Six: 1972 BMW Bavaria 3.0, Minty Clean

The BMW E3 generation sedan was known internally as the "New Six" and was later badged as the Bavaria (when equipped with larger engines) for the US Market.  The E3 was available with several versions of the torquey M30 big-six and today make for great classic drivers.  Prices for nice examples are still reasonable for a classic European sedan.  Find this 1972 BMW Bavaria 3.0 for sale in Charlotte, NC currently bidding for $11,300 with one day to go.

5k: Furious Anger: 1970 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban Wagon

The Quentin Tarantino directed crime film Pulp Fiction includes a fabricated bible quote spoken by Jules Winnfiled (played by Samuel L. Jackson) that features the line: "I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers."  We can't imagine a more fitting car to be driven by Mr L. Jackson than this 1970 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban Wagon for sale in Libertyville, IL currently bidding on ebay for $6,350 reserve-not-met with less than a day to go.  The hidden headlights just ooze cool and there is plenty of room for Jules and random soon-to-be-dead folks in the back seat.

15k: The Frank And The Fastidious: 1993 Toyota Supra MkIV NA-Slushbox

The 6th installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise was released this past weekend, and while the first will be fondly remembered as an automotive themed remake of Point Break (complete with Paul Walker's stunningly accurate rendition of the Keanu Reeves "coma" style of acting) this latest version looks more like a crash fest of super cars and tanks.  FF6 is more an automotive themed version of Saving Private Ryan.  Regardless, the star of the first FF movie was a MkIV Supra, so we've been on the lookout for stock, cheap MkIV Twin-Turbo 6-speed Supras...and they don't exist.  What we did find is that 1993 Toyota Supra NA-slushbox for sale in Oahu, HI for $13,000 via craigslist.  We also would like to introduce DT's newest feature: The Frank And The Fastidious; the thinking man's version of the cars from the FF movies - send us your tips!

5k Flash: Turbo EuroTrash: 1982 BMW 745i E23

The 745i was a turbocharged brute of a luxury sedan from BMW before it started building M-cars.  It was only available in mainland Europe, so you can only get grey-market imports here in the USA, and price will be a premium.  However, a few extra dollars gets you a 3.2 liter turbocharged inline-6 making 252 horsepower and 276 ft-lbs of torque mated to a 4-speed auto in the E23 shark-nose 7-series body.  Find this 1982 BMW 745i sedan for sale in Ramsey, NJ currently bidding at $5,103 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go. Bidding stalled at $5,100 reserve-not-met the last time this thing came to auction....hope the seller drops the reserve.

10k: Memorial Day Madness: 1928 Chevrolet AB National Coupe

Happy Memorial Day to all readers of the Daily Turismo - we hope you are spending your time with family or at a local event honoring those who have died in the service of this country we call home (to our numerous readers in Tajikistan - we are talking about the USA).  What better way to celebrate the US than with a classic American car from the time of economic expansion after the Great War.  Find this 1928 Chevrolet AB National Coupe for sale in Mission Hills, CA currently bidding for $8,300 reserve-not-met with buy-it-now of $11,500.  Seller submission from Oprah85.

10k: Alpinaweiß Sleeper: 1989 BMW 325is, S50 Swap

We've mentioned before how much we love the E30 BMW chassis and generally consider it one of the better deals on the market with solid daily driver examples going for $5k-$6k ...but they are a bit slow in stock (non-M) form; can you justify doubling the price tag for more speed?  Find this 1989 BMW 325is with E36M3 S50 inline-6 swap for sale in Fairview, OR for $12,500 via craigslist.

5k: Mintiest Thorsday Ever: 1983 Volvo 245DL

A minty clean survivor Volvo station wagon is kind of like a minty clean survivor Toyota pickup...they are so rare in unabused form that it's almost shocking to see one looking good-as-new in 2013. But the same conundrum keeps coming up with survivor "utility" vehicles like these: what do you do with one? If it's used as intended, it becomes another worn-out, banged up mass production vehicle. If it's driven sparingly and never burdened, what's the point? We think the answer can lie somewhere in the middle - use it but don't abuse it, keep it clean, waxed and inside (or under cover), but don't be afraid to get a few rock chips and make sure to keep up on maintenance. Today's 1983 Volvo 245 is just such a creature. It seems to have survived its 30 years miraculously well, and even though the sale is the obvious work of a flipper, it's too nice not to share. Find it here on ebay with bidding near $5k, reserve not yet met, in Portland OR (Volvo's home away from Sverige).
