5k Flash: SkyBlue Survivor: 1931 Chevy Truck

In 1929 Chevrolet introduced a new pickup truck powered by a 6-cylinder overhead valve engine when the competition was still powered by small inline-4s.  The Chevy advertisements of the day claimed "A six for the price of four" and the mostly wood body Chevy sold well.  Unfortunately wood doesn't last as long as metal (duh!) and the Ford trucks of the day were built with more steel and tend to have fared the years it is nice to see an intact Chevy truck offered for a reasonable price.  Find this 1931 Chevy Truck for sale in Southern Maine for $4,500 via craigslist.

This truck is in surprisingly good shape for its asking price - and we can only assume that either there are lots of undisclosed problems...or it is a genuine good deal.

Somehow the truck looks even better in a man-cave style workshop, no flat-screen tv's please, just a wide selection of mallets and some other good manual hand tool stuff.

The final photo shows what we can only assume is the owner with his kid or grandkid. Regardless, it looks like a very nice vintage ride for pennies. The wood stakebed is likely a custom built addition, but turns this former heavier-duty truck into a workable pickup that could be used for all manner of hauling duties, or just cruising slow, in style, on your way to work.

  1. Damn. Looks like a hell of a price on that truck.

What would be even better is a road trip from Maine to CA. It would be much more epic than that trip the Joads took in that book.
