Black Friday: 1990 Jeep Comanche

Black Friday is typically celebrated by running out to your local mega-mart and buying all kinds of discounted junk that you really don't need.  We at the Daily Turismo don't believe is messing with tradition, so today we would like to present our version of Black Friday - focusing on cheap cars...and they have to be black.  We think you should skip the $5 BlueRay player and instead pickup this 1990 Jeep Comanche located in Falls Church, VA and currently bidding on ebay for $2,550 with 2 days to go.

Named after the Great Plains Native America tribe known for their horsemanship, the Comanche is built on Jeep's MJ platform and is essentially a pickup version of the compact Cherokee SUV.  The Comanche shares most major components with the Cherokee except for sheet metal.

Powering this Comanche is a 4.0 liter inline 6 - an engine originally designed/developed by the then defunct AMC, but picked up and produced by Chrysler after their aquisition of the Jeep brand and ultimately produced in some form until 2006.  The AMC 242 has a reputation for prodigious torque, lasting many miles and consuming buckets of fuel.

On the inside the Jeep looks like standard American late eighties design - nothing fancy, 85 mph speedo and idiot lights instead of gauges.  We are extremely happy to see this Comanche has a manual transmission and driver selectable 4-wheel-drive.

Not a bad way to start off your Black Friday shopping -and when you start buying all of those $35 70" Flat Screen TV's - you'll need this pickup to haul them home.

  1. Ah, the Comanche. A good friend described it to me as "the hick-est truck ever." But in a good way. I always thought it was odd that this thing has a separate bed but no real frame. Unit body "framerails" welded to both the cab and bed. Only from AMC.

  2. Once spent the night on the bed of one of these between the borders of El Salvador and Guatemala... The border of El Salvador closed at night because of guerrillaI attacks, and and we were the last ones to be able to cross to Guatemala... But when we got to the Guatemala side, they had already closed so we were stuck on no-man's-land,... And we crossed the bridge back to the ES side, because there were little restaurants and more people there...

  3. RUST, run, run, run. Check out the ebay pics of the undercarriage, looks like the left rear spring hanger has serious rust. Heck the dust shield on one rear shock has rusted off. As far as Comanche rarity goes a quick CL search in my area found a half dozen. Find one that doesn't have terminal rust
