Happy Halloween from the Daily Turismo

We at the Daily Turismo would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween.  Stay tuned for All Saints Day tomorrow which will be a tribute to the Volvo P1800.  And our regular color scheme will return.

10k: 1985 Buick LeSabre Superman Collectors Edition

The editors of the Daily Turismo feel that Batman has been getting entirely too much press - what with AMC Javelin based Batmobiles and all sorts of Horrorod's dedicated to the caped crusader.  We want to feature some other comic book heros and think a Superman theme would be perfect.  This 1985 Buick LeSabre has been given a full Superman-theme donk treatment and is for sale in Denver, CO for $8500.

15k DTween: 19XX Batman Freaks Must See

Welcome to our first ever Halloween Daily Turismoween - if you are expecting to see a bunch of mint condition Alfa's and barn find Porsches, you will be severely disappointed.  What you will see today is carnage, mayhem, horror and just a pinch of awesome.  We didn't even know there was a company that built cars called "Batman Freaks", but boy are we glad we found this one.  It is an undisclosed model year Batman Freaks Must See and is for sale in Sarasota, FL for $15,500 or trade for "Coupe Vette".

Free: Used Witch Broom

You don't need to be a freegan to think this is a fantastic deal, but someone on craigslist posted this advertisment for a free used witch broom in New Hamshire.  Ad text follows:

FREE, the perfect ride for your mother in law or for some of you-your wife. I have only one available and cannot hold. This will be a first come-first serve basis. Great gas mileage, very little use, was parked most of the year under cover and only taken out in the cool month of October. Does not burn oil or leak fluids. No dents or even road blasting, everything works as it should, divorce forces placement. My loss is your gain! Happy halloween!

10k: 1966 Chevy Corvair Corsa

We would like to dedicate this post to Ralph Nader’s failed attempts mess with the public.  While he is most recently remembered for his lack of impact on past presidential races, he’s more notoriously remembered as the guy who helped drive the nails into the coffin of an otherwise lively little car; the Corvair.  The second generation Corvair offered from 1965-1969 was both the evolution and the swan-song for GM’s domestically produced answer to the onslaught of imports.  For a brief moment, there was a Corvair for just about every garage, as it was offered as a two door, four door, station wagon, pickup and convertible.  If that sounds vaguely familiar, it is the same formula that VW used so successfully in introducing the US to the ‘less than 2-ton’ car.  Before the haters start in, how many old (fill in the blank European brand) are still powering dune buggies 40-yrs after their bodies were compacted?  This ‘66 Corsa Convertible currently up for bid on Ebay with 4-days left to run is rapidly clawing its way towards $7k and we expect the price to continue to climb on this car even though it is far from perfect.

15k: 2004 Audi S4

The B6 generation Audi S4 was produced from 2004-2005 as the top end to Audi's A4 sedan series.  It replaced the previous generation twin turbo V6 with a brutish V8 from the A8 and is a great car when equipped with the 6 speed manual.  This 2004 Audi S4 is for sale in Clarksville, TN for $16,600 buy-it-now via ebay with only 68k miles on the odo and sporting R8 rims.

10k DT Flash: 1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sedan 1300TI

The Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan was manufactured from 1962-1972, available with a 1.3 or 1.6 liter gasoline engine and the desirable TI trim (TI stands for Turismo Internazionale - a reference to Alfa's racing pedigree). This minty clean 1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 TI is for sale on ebay in Tarzana, CA currently bidding at $9,500 with 1 day to go.

This Giulia (pronounced with a soft "g" - Joo- lee- A) looks to be in fantastic cosmetic shape and is distinctive in its appearance - no one will mistake this Alfa for a Japanese or American car from the 60s.

5k Horrorod: 1987 Chevy Corvette - The Joker's Ride

The Joker is Batman's arch rival in DC Comics long running comic strip and has been played on screen by various folks including Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson & Heath Ledger.  We couldn't have picked a more appropriate Joker mobile for Jack Nicholson than the C4 Corvette as it matches his aged, overweight, balding and grizzly character from the 1989 Batman movie.  This 1987 Chevy Corvette C4 Horrorod has an awesome Joker themed paint job and is for sale in Norfolk, VA for $6995 via craigslist.

Overpriced: 1929 Cadillac Funeral Coach Horrorod

With only 2 days left before Halloween, we at the Daily Turismo are willing to remove the standard DT price cap for Horrorod submissions and go hog wild.  Without further ado, we would like to present the following Horrorod; a 1929 Cadillac Funeral Coach for sale in Buenos Aires, Argentina for $28,000 buy-it-now on ebay. (Big thanks to reader Andy L)

10k: 1973 Porsche 914; Minty Clean

The Porsche 914 was created from a collaboration between Porsche and VW to replace the Porsche 912 and Karmann Ghia respectively.  Today's VW Chairman of the Board Ferdinand Pi√ęch was the project leader for the 914 and the resulting 2-seater sold in much better than the 911 and setup the formula for cheaper Porsches for many years to come.  This 1973 Porsche 914 is about the nicest example we've ever seen and is for sale in Wrightsville Beach, NC, and currently bidding on ebay for $7,900 with 8 hours to go.

10k DT Flash: 1969 Mustang Boss 302 -Some Assy Required

Real 1969-1970 Mustang Boss 302s trade at Barrett-Jackson and other auction sites for close to six figures - so only the most horrible basket cases will ever grace the pages of the Daily Turismo.  However the Boss 302 is an icon and we are pleased to feature this 1969 Mustang Boss 302 for sale on ebay currently bidding at $9.500 no-reserve with 1 hour to go. (update - car sold for $10,201)

This is the real deal - an actual Boss 302 --there is a certain website that will remain nameless that this car could easily be offered for $25-30k as a 'barn-find!' and all sorts of wackos would call it a fantastic deal!  We think it is a rusted piece of junk and the price is a bit high.

15k: 2007 BMW 335i E90 6-spd Sedan

For folks looking for a newer daily driver with sporty intentions you really can't go wrong with the newest BMW 3-series.  BMW has been cranking out these benchmark sporty sedans in huge numbers since 1975 and the next generation is always faster than the previous (albeit uglier and heavier.)  This 2007 BMW 335i sedan with 6 speed manual trans is for sale in Framingham, MA for $17,5000 via ebay buy-it-now.

10k: 1962 Volvo P1800 w/Ford V8

If you’ve ever asked yourself “What the would the world have been like if Caroll Shelby (God rest his soul) had been born in Sweden instead of Texas?” Would his name have been Caroll Stiggy? While we'll never know for sure, the progeny of that daydream might look something like what just popped up on Ebay in the form of this chili-red 1962 Volvo P-1800 for sale in Miami, FL via ebay bidding at $8,000 reserve-not-met.

DT Flash: 1988 Mazda 323 GTX for $1500

We at Daily Turismo are fans of the little Mazda 323 GTX; it was an all wheel drive rally-bred homologated turbo car introduced in the US a full 13 years before Subaru's WRX made it to our shores. Perhaps the little Mazda was too good for its time, since only 1,243 of them were sold in the two years it was available here. Regardless, this is a cheap, entertaining pocket rocket that should put a smile on any gearhead's face and we've found one for only $1500, here on craigslist in Valencia, CA.

The 323 GTX looks almost identical to a normal 323 hatchback.
The dual rear spoilers and 7-spoke alloy wheels are the only visible giveaways of its true identity.

DT Special: How to Zombie Proof Your Car

In anticipation of Halloween (and potential post-election day violence) the guys at asked us if we wanted share this handy infographic on How to Zombie Proof Your Car. is a UK based insurance shopping tool to compare rates and they seem to have a classically British sense of humour and currently are offering Afterlife, Broom and Time Travel Insurance as well as some tips on how to Zombie Proof Your House.

10k: Thorsday Rallybrick - 1980 Volvo 242

Want to go stage rallying, or even rallycrossing but don't want to spend years building a car? Need to practice your Scandanavian Flick on gravel roads in a simple, strong and reliable RWD chassis? Have $7.5k burning a hole in your pocket? Then you may want to skip this feature...because this might just be too tempting. What we have here started life as a regular 1980 Volvo 242 but was built into a full stage rally car many years ago, and is being sold as a complete turnkey ready-to-rally package. Find it here on the forums, in the San Fernando Valley, CA area for $7500.

10k: 1971 Fiat 850 Sport Bertone Racer

The Fiat 850 was available as a sedan, coupe, spider and sweet familiare 7 passenger van.  The coupe was styled by famed design house Bertone - and nicknamed the Bertone Racer, but still motivated by the same underpowered rear mounted inline 4.  This 1971 Fiat 850 Sport Bertone Racer is for sale for $12,000 in CA via ebay.

5k DT Flash: 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D Euro

Most of the W123 Mercedes-Benz diesel sedans for sale in California today smell like soybean oil and/or hippies, are laden with hideous diving board bumpers, but can't be killed by conventional means. In the words of Ellen Ripley, "nuke the entire site from orbit; it's the only way to be sure [that a W123 is really dead]." The fact that a given car is the automotive equivalent of a cockroach can be reason enough to consider it as your next Daily Turismo, but today we have an especially nice W123 Euro model that offers style along with invincibility. It is for sale in Los Angeles, resplendent in its green-on-green color scheme, thin bumpers and composite headlights. Find it here on ebay with reserve not met, and bidding near $6k.

The "thistle green" paint looks fantastic and is rarely seen on US market cars.
