10k: 1988 Pontiac Fiero

Pontiac introduced its mid-engined Fiero in 1984 - complete with manual steering, skinny tires, parts bin suspension (from Chevette & Citation) and powered by an anemic 2.4liter inline 4 nicknamed the "Iron Duke".  It wasn't until 1988 that the Fiero recieved a proper suspension setup and this low mile 88 Fiero coupe located in Silo, OK for $7500 would be quick little runner for the money.

This 88 Fiero is a 'coupe' and not a GT (GTs have more of a fastback roof shape) - but its 49k original miles and very clean/stock look is what makes it stand out.  Too many good Fieros have undergone horrible Fauxrarri transformations at the hands of amateur mechanics. This one is stock except for the stereo and a K&N air filter.
The Fiero is powered by a mid-mounted L44 transverse 2.8 liter V6 mated to a 5 speed gearbox connected to the rear wheels.  The engine made 140 horsepower and 170 ft-lbs of torque when new - enough to make the 2700 lb Fiero not fast - but peppy and fun.  Stock cloth interior looks to have survived the years well, but don't expect a "new Audi" experience from the 25 year old GM switchgear - the good news is that parts from junkyards and scrappers are available since over 370,000 Fieros were built during its 5 year life span.

Fiero:  Fire it up or light it on fire?
